As a fashion minimalist, colors don’t usually appeal to me; Instead, it literally does the opposite. I own 10 of the same white tank tops and prefer a neutral color palette that stays in my comfort zone. When Barbiecore took over last summer and red became the color of fall, I wasn’t so quick to add bright pinks, fuchsias, or vermilion tones to my closet. However, since the end of last summer, a fresh new color has crept in to take over as the hottest color of the year, and spoiler alert: the shade is suitable even for those who, like me, have an aversion to color. I’m excited to welcome butter yellow into my spring wardrobe, and you should too.
Yellow is a mood enhancer. It reminds us of sunshine and positivity, which is a given when it comes to spring dressing. For those who gravitate towards neutral tones, bright lemon colors are a refreshing choice that is still easy on the eyes. Lighter shades of yellow also closely resemble cream, which makes it more comfortable to pop off my white top and makes styling options easier. For example, you can pair a lemon tank top with denim shorts and flats, or a buttery sheer top with a bralette and mini skirt. I’m always jealous of those who wear a lot of color and can confidently experiment with their wardrobe. For me, choosing yellow is a way to try something new with my style – even if it’s just a small step.
The easiest way to implement yellow in my closet is with tops that I would normally wear (just one shade of yellow) and accessories. This spring I’m particularly excited to pair a butter yellow linen dress with heels or sandals. Trendy tones like Barbie pink inevitably come and go, while a pale shade of yellow is eternal no matter the season. Simply put, yellow is an easy way to incorporate color that still fits into a capsule wardrobe.
